The YARD Program
Young adults in Philadelphia face numerous challenges to achieving success. New Leash provides an important intervention for those aged 18-24 who are facing their first charge through the Young Adult Reentry/Diversion (YARD) Program. The goal of the program is to provide young people with an alternative to incarceration that leads to life-changing results.
By providing intensive, wraparound, trauma-informed services and practical opportunities for success, the YARD Program facilitates fresh starts for these participants so they can avoid the cycle of incarceration, lead healthier lives, and positively impact their community.
This approach achieves even better outcomes than our signature reentry program model, with a one-year recidivism rate of only 4%, and helps foster a safer community with a 99% reduction in gun-related charges. These results show how effective early intervention is to reducing mass incarceration and to supporting young adults as they build their careers.
